Falkner & Dawbarn family history
Greetings everyone, I am researching my family history in particular Robert Falkner (1830 -1893) who lived in 20 Church Terrace, Wisbech in the 1870 to 1890's. He was a grocer and later a Relieving Officer. He married Sarah Marie Arger and had 10 children. He was possibly a friend of Lord Peckover. His eldest daughter Margaret married two Dawbarn brothers ( George first and then Yelverton ) and lived in "Bowthorp House" , Wisbech. I have a wealth of information on the Falkner family, and would love to discuss the details with someone interested in Wisbech Victorian history. Best wishes Robert

Best wishes Robert Hi Robert Sorry I am a bit late in replying to your post, but I have a little information for you, if it's any use. I have in my records from the non Conformist Cemetery, several Dawbarns buried there, one of whom is a George, JP 9Justice of the Peace or James Proctor) died abt 4 Sept 1899. I queried the JP as the Dawbarns were, and still are, a well known firm of local Solicitors. There is no entry for a Yelverton. I have no entries for Falkner, though there was a family living very near to me in the transport industry. The father died a few years ago and his wife moved . One son is a hair dresser and the other was a truck driver, whether he still is or not, I don't know. If you get stuck anymore, please do't hesitate to contact me.

George Dawbarn
Many thanks for your information, Ken. I have a picture of George & Maggie Dawbarn in their rather smart carriage ( together with driver) outside their house "Bowthorpe" which was a rather grand mansion outside of Wisbech. If this George is the same one as the JP you had identified, then not only do the dates and religeon look right, but his circumstances as a lawyer looks better than as a grocer. I will continue the research . If you'd like to see the photos , let me know. I dont think I can attach it here so I'll have to send it to your email address. Many thanks again. Cheers Robert>

George Dawbarn
Dear Ken, A year on, I have now compiled a detailed profile of Maggie Dawbarn (nee Falkner) 1854 to 1930 who married first George Dawbarn the JP and later a related cousin Yelverton Dawbarn. The George Dawbarn is the same one who is buried at the Leverinton Road Cemetery, and who also owned the Dawson & Sons grocery and draperyshop in Wisbech market place. Its a large Word file with photos so I think it not sensible to post it here. If you'd like a copy let me know and I'll send it to you separtely. Regards Robert

I will PM my personal email address to you, so you can send the file as an attachment. I did speak to one of the Faulkner brothers that I am aquainted with, but he has never got back to me. Hopefully, any info you send to me may be of interest to them.
