Pest Alerts - The conditions at the moment are IDEAL for applying nematodes for controlling vine weevil, chafer grubs and leatherjackets i.e. the temperatures are unseasonably warm and we have had plenty of rain.
It is the IDEAL time to treat for leatherjackets. Many people are reporting clouds of daddy long legs emerging from their lawns NOW and this is a sure sign of leatherjacket infestation. As the Daddy Long Legs emerge from the lawn they leave behind the next generation of leatherjackets which will soon hatch and will be at their most susceptible to the nematode treatment. i.e. TREAT NOW.
It is the LAST chance to treat for chafer grubs - The chafer killer needs to be applied in the next couple of weeks before the chafer grubs dig down deep for the winter and the nematodes cannot get to them.
It is the IDEAL time to treat for vine weevil. The mild weather has meant that the adult vine weevils have been active much later in the year than normal and have been busy laying eggs. Treat your plants NOW to kill the newly hatched grubs and protect your over-wintering plants.
