Shop UNAssistants
Just a copy of an email that I have sent off to Poundland, who's Checkout Girl, was more interested in chatting to her chums, than serving customers: Sir, I am contacting your Customer Services with a complaint regarding the attitude of one of your Checkout Staff at the Wisbech branch of POUNDLAND. Yetserday afternoon, 15.15, Saturday 2nd June 2007, I, along with several customers, were in a queue at the checkouts, 2nd from th entrance door. It was manned by a young girl who gave the impression that she was more interested in chatting away to her chums, than carrying out her duties. The lady in front of me had about 3 baskets of goods, which, because of the member's social activities, took ages to pass through. I only had one item, but, when she had finished serving the lady in front of me, she turned to me and said that she was closing the till down - still with several more customers behind me. I was annoyed at this, as I feel she had several opportunities to inform those queueing what she intended to do. I complained to the girl about this, whereupon her 'chums' started calling out that the member of staff had lost more friends. I very, very rarely use Poundland, mainly becauseof the apparent lack of staff on the tills as I suffer from panic attacks when inenclosed spaces and queues, with several people around me. I happened to look in the store, as I could not find what I wanted, a car tarpauline, anywhere in Wisbech. I think it will take me some time to even think of purchasing anything from Poundland, if this is the way that your staff are encouraged to treatcustomers. I have been encouraged to take this action following suggestions from two customers who were also affected in the queue I was in. One lady suggested I get in touch with the manager, but the other lady said this would not prove anything, as she had reported schoolboys stealing drinks from next to the entrance and nobody in the store seemed interested and she was told that this was always happening. Doubt if it'll do anything, but glad to have got it off my chest

This is a bog standard reply recieved from Poundland: Good morning, Thank you for your Email. Naturally the company takes all such matters very seriously and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. I can assure you that all information has now been passed onto the Area Manager of the Wisbech store who can take further corrective action. Regards Beth Customer Relations Poundland Limited
