SPEEDING CAMPAIGN IN WISBECH
DRIVERS who speed in Wisbech and the surrounding villages will be targeted in a campaign by local officers. The campaign, which is being run by the Wisbech and district neighbourhood policing team and the Waterlees and Clarkson neighbourhood policing team, will see a series of speed checks in the area. The checks were prompted by the two team's first panel meetings, at which residents decided that speeding should be one of the team's priorities. Sergeant Dave Bax, who leads the Waterlees and Clarkson policing team, said: \"We have had a number of problems with people speeding in and around the Wisbech area. \"This is an issue that is concerning residents and was therefore chosen as a priority for local officers. \"Both teams have already been carrying out speed checks following concerns prior to the panel meetings and these specialist operations will be further developing that work.\" Officers from both teams will work together to carry out targeted speed checks in hot spot areas identified as having a problem with speeding. Sergeant Sharon Burrell, who leads the Wisbech and district team, said: \"Drivers who are speeding in the town and surrounding villages are not only putting lives at risk but also causing residents distress. \"We will be issuing fixed penalty notices to anyone caught speeding, which carries a £60 fine and three points on your licence. \"We would urge people to consider other road users and residents and stick to the speed limit.\"
